Bioplastics may offer environmental advantages over their fossil-based counterparts, but it depends on the specific feedstock used in their production, production location, method of production, product lifetime, and end-of-life treatment.

The objectives of this work are to: (i) identify enablers and constraints for a PHA production facility and (ii) quantify the broader economic and environmental impacts of PHA in the new (bio) circular economy versus traditional linear economy.
